COURSE BROCHURE - autumn 2005

This course is organized in the first period of autumn term 2005. The scope of this course in 2 credits.

The goal of this course is to introduce non-technical factors that influence on the quality and success of a telecommunications service in the consumer market. The approach in the course will be user-centered and thus it mainly considers things from the viewpoint of psychology.

International students who don't speak Finnish should register to the course assistant maria.hyytiainen(a)tkk.fi before the first lecture (Wednesday 14th Sept.) OR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!

Information
Announcements and other information during the course can be read in EeForum and in the Web. Course assistant will answer your quetions on Mondays at 12a.m.-2p.m. and at Thursdays at 8-12a.m.

Assignments and Exam
To pass the course you will have to do four exercises and pass the examination. The exercises are done in groups of 3-4 people. The groups are formed by course personnel. The course includes lectures, but the lectures will be held in Finnish. Lectures are optional.

Grading
The grade from this course is defined by the grade of the exam and exercises.The exercises and the exam will be graded on a scale of 0-5. All four exersices will be graded together. Exercise that has been graded failed (0) must be improved in one week's time.The total grade depends on your exam and exercise grade, exam 70% and exercise 30%.

Schedule
The Finnish lectures will be held on Wednesdays from 12a.m. to 2p.m. at hall S1 in the Department of Electrical and Communications Engineering. The lectures begin on 14th of September. You can see the exercise schedule in the Schedule section. Tutorials will be held on Thursdays from 10 to 12a.m. in hall I346. Tutorials will start on 29th of September. Tutorials are held in Finnish.

Material
The main material on this course is a small collection of articles that can be found at the secretary's office in the Telecommunications laboratory (2nd floor, Department of Electrical and Communications Engineering) where they have been placed for copying.

Exam
Exam is based on the collection of articles and the exercises. The first exam is on 24th of October from 1 to 4pm at hall S4.
