Frequently asked questions - labs #1, #2, #3, #5

What is the required format of the preliminary exercises/laboratory exercises?

Preliminary exercises should be done by pencil-and-paper. Laboratory reports for labs #2 and #5 should be written with a word processor. Other laboratory reports may also be done with pencil-and-paper. There is usually room for handwritten answers in the laboratory exercise papers. Schematics etc may be drawn to a separate paper, if necessary. The most important requirement in all laboratory reports is that you should include enough information to the report, so that anyone reading it can understand what you have done, repeat your measurement and verify the results. This means that you should indicate stuff like carrier frequency, cable attenuations, schematic of the measurement system and so on to the report.

When do I have to return the preliminary exercises/laboratory exercises? And where?

For the exact dates, see the latest information page. Preliminary problems and laboratory reports can be returned to the assistant, or into the box, in 2nd floor, E wing of the ECE building.

Do we have to return separate reports?

No. Each group should return only one preliminary report, and one laboratory report.

Can we do the labs in a group of three students?

No. However, doing the labs alone is possible, but not recommended. If you can't find a partner just put your name to the course registration list, maybe a partner finds you.

Where can I find material on GSM signalling/IQ modulation/spectrum estimation/etc?

The home page of each laboratory work contains links and literature references to the relevant topics. The first page of each lab material lists relevant courses at HUT; check the material of those courses. There are also references in the lab material. If you still cannot find material related to a particular question, ask the assistant.

I got a boomerang on lab #XX!! What do I have to do?

You should correct the erroneous answers and return them as soon as possible respecting the deadlines. Write the corrected answers to a separate sheet of paper. Do not erase, or otherwise modify, your old answers.
