Overview

Modern day telecommunications is enabled by dedicated telecommunication networks. Probably the most familiar of them are the traditional telephone network (Public Switched Telephone Network), the GSM (Global System for Mobile) and of course the Internet that is in great deal based on TCP/IP protocol suite.

Objective of this course is to inspect some of the basic features of the today's telecommunication networks and to get familiar to the related standardization work established for instance by ITU (International Telecommunications Union), and ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute). The focus of this course is in the understanding of the network interface dynamics (connecting network elements) and in the inspection of the network topology and network node functionalities in all the levels of OSI-stack. Lecture and tutorial handouts will be available for downloading  in this homepage.
