planned to take the course S-72.4110 Postgraduate Course in
Communications
Engineering this year, then you are encouraged to take Prof. Kantola's
course S-38.4030 instead since S-72.4110 will not be arranged. The
topic of Kantola's
course is certainly within the field of communications engineering. The
professors of our lab will accept this course instead of
S-72.4110 in our major/minor topic.

postgraduate seminar (S-38.4030) themed as
"From Carrier grade Ethernet to Routed Ethernet - Discovering the world
after IP".

The course has two tracks: The first is concentrating on carrier grade ethernet
(aka MetroEthernet) solutions and the other track investigates relevant topics
of IRTF research.
The course will be arranged in Fall term 2007 (Periods I&II). The course is
based on relevant material on the topics and arranged as a seminar.
As always, the course is intended to also act as an opportunity for the
students to prepare, submit and hopefully also publish their contribution in
relevant conferences and journals. Last year (fall 2006) saw almost 50% of
seminar work to be later accepted as conference publications.
The start-up meeting will be held on Friday, September 28th at 15-17.30 in room
D302 (lab's coffee room) in the Department of Electrical and Communications
Engineering. We will confirm the assignment of topics and have an introductory
lecture by prof. Kantola.
The seminar sessions are held on two days at the end of Period II (late
November, early December, exact dates to be announced later).
