In this master's thesis testing of the signaling protocols of the base station controller are described. The structure of the GSM-system is described briefly, whereas the structure of the base station controller is described in greater detail.

Testing of the base station controller consists of five consecutive phases: module testing, integration testing, system testing, compatibility testing and release testing. In each phase the base station controller is tested from a different point of view and in different configurations. In this thesis, every testing phase is described and the software tools used in the integration testing are introduced.

Regression testing is a part of integration testing. Regression testing consists of a selected test case set, that is inherited from the previous releases. The test cases are executed by using the CVOPS-based testing tool, i.e. the TTCN-tester, and the test cases are implemented with a standardized TTCN- notation. The TTCN-tester and the TTCN-notation are introduced in this thesis. The thesis also describes how the new HIT interface is attached to the tester. The automation level of the regression testing can be increased with the HIT-interface
