The ATM switch of Communications Laboratory is LattisCell
Model 10114-SM from Bay Networks. It provides 5 gigabits per second internal
bandwidth between input and output ports. The Model 10114-SM offers 14
SONET/SDH multimode fiber connectors, and two siglemode connectors for
supporting data links up to 25 kilometers over singlemode fiber optic cabling.
EtherCell
(Ethernet-to-ATM switch) translates Ethernet frames into ATM cells and
multiplexes 12 10BASE-T ports onto one 155 Mbps SONET/SDH port. Each 10BASE-T
port provides stand-alone Ethernet segments or individual Ethernet clients
with a full 10 Mbps of dedicated bandwidth, while the ATM port provides
access to the ATM network.
The CMS is a software, that manages connections throughout the LattisCell
and EtherCell ATM network. The MCS software supports broadcast and multicast
services. The NMA software enables EtherCell and LattisCell switches to
be managed from a single management console. The CMS and NMA resides on
the Sun SPARCstation 5 and the MCS resides on the Sun SPARCstation 20.
The laboratory also has three multimedia workstations and one PC, which
are connected to the LattisCell ATM switch.
