Laboratory Exercise #3: BSS Radio Parameters

Introduction

In this laboratory exercise radio parameters of GSM Basestation Subsystem are investigated. Optimising air interface can dramatically increase network capacity. Local Maintenance Terminal (LMT) is used to adjust radio parameters, like handover thresholds, cell reselection and such. The objective is to understand the basics and possibilities of parameter planning and network optimisation. Background knowledge of GSM is expected.

Material

You need a windows help file about the BSS parameters in order to succesfully do the preliminary exercises. You can get this from the assistant.

Material for the lab work .

NOTE: In preliminary problems "idle mode parameters" and "dedicated mode parameters" where you have to set CELL_RESELECT_HYSTERESIS and HO_MARGIN, the slow fading is log-normally distributed with standard deviation of 6 dB.

Extra material (3½" floppies) not included.
