Lectures

Sept. 10th - Nov. 5th, 1999

This course will have some lectures, which will serve as an additinal source of information rather than primary.

The lectures are held during the first period of the Fall Semester on Fridays 10-12 in hall I256 at the Dept. of Electrical Engineering. The closing lecture is in the beginning of the second period, on Nov. 5th. There is no lecture on Oct. 29th, 1999.

For problem-oriented students the lectures are a channel from which new perspectives and specific knowledge of some areas can be attainted. The contents of the lectures are guided by the study goals set by the tutor groups. For those doing weekly exercises, the lectures will give a good starting point for gathering related material. For students who are preparing for the literature exam the lectures will act as a helpful means of analysis and parsing of the material they have read.

• Lecture 1: Introduction, principles of group work
• Lecture 2: Activity, working memory, and attention
• Lecture 3: Long term memory, mental models, and learning
• Lecture 4: Perception, subjective and objective quality and QoS (Quality of Service) of audio-video connections
• Lecture 5: Usability, paying attention to user tasks and requirements, and the process of user centered design
• Lecture 6: Communication, attributes of communication equipment and communications
• Lecture 7: Acceptability and quality from user perspective
